Hello,
I'm trying to figure out what I need to do in order to configure and
program two development boards at my disposal.

First, I have a Spartan 3 Development board which I used while back in
college and I was able to program this using a JTAG-USB cable. The cable
was purchased from Digilent inc. For some reason, whenever I try to
invoke Impact from Xilinx ISE-12, the board can't be detected.
So I have a Spartan3 board which is very useful for personal development
and I can't seem to talk to it.

Second, I have been handed a Virtex-4 ML402 development board for
evaluation and I thought I should ask if purchasing a "Platform Cable
USB2" would be ideal? I mean, with this, I'm assuming I will be able to
configure both the Spartan3 and the ML402 with it?
So, if you can help address this, I mean, it would cost me $225 if I was
to purchase it, but, if you think there is anything I can do to get the
JTAG-USB cable working?

Finally, just out of curiosity, what are the methods or choices we have
to actually configure and program the FPGA in the ML402? I am reading
the user guide for the ML402 and it states that the System ACE card can
be used to program the FPGA through the JTAG port.

I don't know where to refer to for any introduction or step-by-step on how to use the ACE
CompactFlash (CF) for this, and if that was possible, does it mean, there is no need to purchase
the "Platform Cable USB2"?
