In the attached schematics, we have this Power On Reset circuit in our design. However we have encountered issues with the circuit and have decided to remove it all together in our design. We just want to make sure that by doing this, we are not taking out an important circuit of a Spartan-6 based design. The purpose for this Power On Reset circuit is that it provides a reset signal in the event that any of the two power supplies it monitors: +3.3V and +1.2V or the VCCINT and VCCO/VCCAUX supplies of the FPGA itself goes below a certain threshold. The reset signal coming from this Power On Reset circuit is tied to the DCM in the FPGA firmware. By removing this Power On Reset circuit in our design, we are basically making the DCM module as a standalone module in the firmware. In so far as we have seen of the schematics of several evaluation cards for Spartan-6 by Xilinx or by Avnet, there are no Power On Reset circuit in their designs. Example Spartan-6 schematics by Xilinxs attached. Does this mean then that, a Power On Reset circuit is NOT really needed in a Spartan-6 based design? Can anybody please confirm this?
