    Hi,
Selecting what programming/debug tool to use, have little to do with Harmony or MCC,
It is done in MPLAB X 'Project Properties'.
In the 'Dashboard' panel of MPLAB window, normally the lower lefthand part, in the left margin,
there is a button with: 'Nut, bolt and Spanner' icon.
It will open a big dialog box with project settings, also what debug tool to use.
 
If you struggle with MCC, then I think Harmony will not be any more easy.
As ChinziaG mention, older versions of MLA have USB for PIC32MX
 
Those versions of MLA that have code and projects for PIC32MX devices like 220B,
are now called 'Legacy MLA', look down in the webpage, until you find the Tab.

It may be easiest to use together with XC32 C compiler version v1.34,

Ps.
While this is the right forum to ask about Harmony,
it might be the wrong forum to suggest using MLA v2013-06-15.
For anyone with objections, the challenge would be to come up with a Harmony example for USB that will fit in 32 kB of program memory, the total program memory in MX220 beeing smaller than one panel of boot flash in MZ devices.

    Only the legacy MLA (v2013-06-15) supports USB on the PIC32MX family.
 
In MPLAB X you have to select your hardware tool (nothing to do with Harmony). If you have created the project, go to project properties and make sure PicKit3 is selected under configuration >> Hardware Tool.
