However, it is probably better to look at the coefficients in the firmware, as my experience on the 8720D suggests that what kit is supported depends on firmware version of the instrument. You can define one user-calibration kit on the 8753 series - there is no need to reflash any EEPROMs. On my 8720D VNA, the following will work. 1) Press CAL 2) Press "CAL KIT" (probably defaults to 7 mm or N on your instrument) 3) Press MODIFY 4) Press "DEFINE STANDARD" 5) Press "up/down arrow keys to select the standard you want to modify. 6) Press "Modify Standard Definition" If the offset delays are 16.695 on the short and 14.491 ps on the open, then it expecting an 85033B or 85033C. If they are around 31.80799 ps on the short and 29.243 ps on the open, then it expects will work with an 85033D, 85033E, or 85052 series kit. (Be careful not to press the softkeys at the wrong time, as you can redefine a short to be an open very easily, and that will screw things up completely) You can only save one user cal kit in memory. I've done it multiple times. I didn't want to burden my original post with all the gory details. My inquiry about changing the firmware kit has its origins in being able to use the "User Defined Kit" as another special condition while simplifying the embedded kit to what I have, namely the 85033D kit. Seems without re-flashing the firmware this is not possible. I can live with the User Defined Kit. Karin |
