Did the upgrade process complete successfully? No hangs, error messages or anything like that?
 
Did you also update to the latest Intel HD Graphics driver? If not, I suggest that you try this.
 
I do not believe that there is a way to back off the firmware upgrade. I have sent a query to the development team regarding this, however, and get an update here if there is a way.

Thanks for the reponse. it was hanging , don't know if i should have waited longer for it , but after ten minutes of a black screen i decided to reboot. I will have to get an adapter from u***-c to hdmi to see if i can get some kind of display from the other port. Right now the computer is pretty useless

Were you using an HDMI 2.0 monitor when you updated the FW? I believe it won't update properly if you use an older HDMI 1.4 display. If you have access to a 2.0 display, try doing the update again.

i hooked it up to my 4k tv i think it must be HDMI 2.0. Anyway i got a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter today and the display works on my tv. Now i have to figure out how to install the firmware for the HDMI port since when i plug into it my screen goes blank

To attach a file, you must click “Use Advanced Editor” on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the “attach” option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

I was checking the manual of the Samsung Q6f TV (2017 model), but I could not confirm the TV comes with an actual HDMI 2.0 port.  The manual mentions about HDMI 2.0 mode, but I do not know if there is an actual HDMI 2.0 port installed http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201801/20180123102314699/ENG_US_KTMATSCL-3.0.8.pdf
 
I recommend contacting Samsung* directly so they can let you know the type of video port they put on the TV.  Per the HDMI firmware instructions "A HDMI 2.0 device must be connected to the Intel NUC for the update to work".  If there is no HDMI 2.0 port on the TV the update will not work.
 
If Samsung* confirms the video port is HDMI 2.0 please try the firmware upgrade again.  You may need to connect an additional display to the USB-C port since you will be getting a black screen if you use only HDMI port.
 
Are you using the same HDMI cable with the USB-C adapter? If so, we can eliminate the display cable as the issue.
